The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team was blanked by Rice University by a 7-0 count on Friday (Mar. 30) in Houston, TX, and dropped its overall record to 7-9 on the 2007 spring campaign.
The Lady Broncs received their only victory of the afternoon in the number-three doubles' position where the team of Silke Buksik (Wablingen, Germany/Salier-Gymnasium Wablingen) and Megan Bedeau (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/Northview Heights S.S.) posted an 8-2 triumph over the Owls' squad of Christine Dao and Kimberly Patenaude.
In the top flight of doubles' action, Julia Cirne-Lima (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Eckerd College) and Giana Oliveira (Santa Anna, Brazil/Eckerd College) suffered an 8-6 setback to Julie Chao and Tiffany Lee while Luisa Cantu (Tamps, Victoria, Mexico/Colegio Jose de Escandon) and Stephanie Willerding (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Northview Heights S.S.) dropped an 8-2 decision to Dominique Karas and Rebecca Lin in the number-two position.
In singles' action, Oliveira suffered a two-set defeat to Chao in the number-one position by scores of 7-5 and 6-3 while Dao handed Willerding a 6-4, 6-2 setback in the number-two spot of the lineup.
Cirne-Lima fell to Lee by scores of 6-1 and 6-1 in the number-three position while Buksik dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Kara in the number-four spot of the rotation.
In the number-five spot of the lineup, Bedeau dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Lin while Cantu suffered a three-set setback to Emily Braid in the number-six spot of the lineup by scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 10-8.
The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 31) when they square-off against the University of Houston with match time slated for 12:00 p.m.
