The Broncs took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first frame when Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro) opened up the game with a walk then advanced to third base on a throwing error by UTSA third baseman Ryan Saltzgaber. The UTPA newcomer would eventually be plated on the following at-bat by Rio Grande Valley product Abraham Garcia (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.).

The Roadrunners would tie up the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when James Keithley connected on a double then was plated two batters later on a sacrifice fly by UTSA centerfielder Michael Rockett.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Roadrunners exploded offensively as UTSA plated nine runs during the fourth and fifth innings, which was highlighted by Saltzgaber's three-run home run in the fourth inning.

With the score at 10-1 in favor of the home squad, the Roadrunners were able to plate a single insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Tim Palincsar collected a RBI-single in the frame.
