Patriots Dominate Broncs in Final Game of Weekend Series

Dallas Baptist collected a single-game record for home runs and runs scored in its 31-8 victory over The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program en route to sweeping the three-game series on Saturday (Apr. 21) at Patriot Field in Dallas, TX.

After being scoreless through the first four innings of the game, Dallas Baptist found their stroke at the plate and began scoring in bunches as the home squad plated 31 runs in a span of four innings. The Patriots scored six runs in the fifth inning, 15 runs in the sixth frame, four runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth inning.

The Patriots pounded out six home runs in the sixth inning as part of their 15 runs, and the biggest bat in the lineup during that frame was Trevor Head, who connected on a pair of home runs in the inning.

Head finished the game with four hits, including three home runs and one double, to go along with five RBI and four runs scored. He was one of seven Patriots to finish the game with two or more hits in the contest.

Austin Krum collected three hits to go along with seven RBI while Garrett Baker added three hits, four runs scored and six RBI. In total, the Patriots collected 13 extra-base hits in the contest with 10 of them coming by way of the long ball.

Brett Lester recorded the victory for Dallas Baptist as he tossed 3.0 innings of action, allowing one run - earned - on two hits and striking out one hitter.

The Bronc pitching staff kept the Patriots scoreless in the first round innings of the game and held a 3-0 advantage in the top of the third inning when Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) connected on a three-run home run that plated both Osiel Flores (Mission, TX/UT-Brownsville) and Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro).

UTPA newcomer Dominic Tognietti (Katy, TX/James E. Taylor H.S.) added to the Broncs' lead at 4-0 when he connected on his fifth home run of the season to lead off the top of the fourth frame.

Alex Guajardo (La Joya, TX/La Joya H.S.) suffered the loss for the Broncs as the UTPA senior hurled 4.1 innings of action, allowing six runs - four earned - on six hits en route to dropping his record to 1-4 on the season.

The Broncs will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 24) when the Valley's squad travels to Austin, TX, to take on nationally-ranked University of Texas.
