Box Score

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped game three in a three-game series by a score of 7-4 against Dallas Baptist University on Saturday (Apr. 28) at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Broncs dropped to 16-36 on the season while the Patriots improved to 25-19.

The Patriots exploded in the second inning with a six-run, five-hit frame in which Evan Bigley hit his third multi-run home run of the series, this one a grand slam to put DBU up by a 6-0 margin.

Bigley finished the day with a 3-for-5 performance, including four RBI to go along with one run.

The Broncs were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Ana J.C.) hit an RBI single to right field that plated Nick Bourn (San Antonio, TX/Warren H.S.).

Krum added to the Patriot's lead in the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run off Philip Rodriguez (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) to put extend the DBU lead to 7-1.

The Broncs rallied in the ninth inning with a three run two hit frame, including two runs scored on free bases from the Patriot pitching staff. The UTPA bases loaded rally fell short when Matt Guzman (Corpus Christi, TX/UT-San Antonio) popped up to third base for the final out, stranding a pair of Bronc base runners on bags.

DBU's Victor Black picked up the win for his 4.2 innings on the hill, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five UTPA batters. Brett Lester earned the save for the Patriots.

Cody Cisper (Peggs, OK/Northeastern State University) fell to 0-7 on the season, giving up six earned runs on seven hits from the Patriots.

The Broncs were led offensively by Brooks who picked up two of the four UTPA hits on the day while adding an RBI.

The Broncs return to action on Tuesday (May 1) when they host Southland Conference Texas A&M - Corpus Christi at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
