Broncs Drop Game Two in Fort Worth, 9-2

May 12, 2007

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped game two of a three-game series against Texas Christian University by a score of 9-2 after an hour and a half rain delay at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX, on Saturday (May 12).

The Broncs dropped to 17-37 on the season despite collecting eight hits while the Horned Frogs improve to 39-11 on their record-breaking regular season.

After a one-two-three opening inning from the Broncs, TCU notched three runs in it's first at-bat, scoring the trio of runs on two hits while leaving a pair of runners stranded on base, making it a 3-0 contest early.

The Horned Frogs continued their offensive attack in the second inning after a pair of back-to-back doubles from Keith Conlon and Austin Adams made it a 5-0 ball game.

The Broncs were able to slow down the scoring barrage in the third inning, allowing just one run on one hit from TCU. The one hit in the frame was a solo shot off the bat of Walker that increased the Horned Frog lead to 6-0.

UTPA was able to hold TCU scoreless in the middle three innings, before scoring it's first run of the game in the seventh inning when Nick Bourn (San Antonio, TX/Warren H.S.) was plated on a Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro) single to the shortstop after originally making it on base safely with a bunt single to the pitcher.

The Horned Frogs halted any momentum the Broncs may have been generating when they added a trio of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it an 9-1 game. TCU scored three runs on two hits and leaving one man stranded on base.

UTPA picked up another run in the eighth frame when Patrick Brooks (Vallejo, CA/Santa Ana J.C.) crossed home plate on a fielding error by the TCU center fielder, putting the score at 9-2.

Adams led TCU offensively for the second straight game, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Chad Linder (Reklaw, TX/Rusk H.S.) gets the loss in the game, pitching six innings, allowing nine hits, nine runs - all earned - while walking three batters to drop his record to 2-3 on the year. TCU's Chris Johnson earned the win for his 6.1 innings on the hill, allowing zero runs on five hits.

The Broncs are back in action on Sunday (May 13) when they play the final game against TCU at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.
