The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball program dropped its record to 2-7 on the 2007 campaign after the Lady Broncs fell to Tulane and South Dakota State at the Domino's Pizza Volleyball Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 1).
Tulane 3, UTPA 0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-24)
The Green Wave improved their overall record to 6-0 with a straight-set decision over the Lady Broncs in the third round of the Domino's Pizza Volleyball Invitational in Huntsville, TX.
Tulane finished with a team hitting percentage of .300 in the match with 56 kills in 130 total attacks with 17 miscues while the Lady Broncs were able to connect on half as many kills as the Valley's team finished with 28 in 126 total attacks.
The Green Wave secured a 1-0 advantage over the Lady Broncs with a 30-20 decision in the first frame before posting a 30-17 victory and a 30-24 triumph to claim the match in the morning session.
Bridget Wells finished with a match-high 15 kills to go along with a .480 hitting percentage while TU middle blocker Ksenija Vlaskovic collected 12 kills and three blocks for the Green Wave. Jen Linder also recorded a solid match with a .778 hitting percentage with seven kills in nine attempts while two-time All-American Sara Radosevic collected nine kills, seven digs and four service aces.
Luna Rebrovic and Rachel Lindelow each finished with a double-double for the Green Wave, finishing with 28 assists and 10 digs and 22 assists and 10 digs, respectively.
Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) finished with a team-high nine kills to go along with eight digs and four blocks for the Lady Broncs while UTPA setter Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out 23 assists in addition to nine digs and four blocks.
Deanna Schneyer (Diamond Bar, CA/Diamond Ranch H.S.) collected six kills and five blocks while Rebecca Toddy (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) led the Lady Broncs defensively with 13 digs.
South Dakota State 3, UTPA 0 (30-9, 30-16, 30-20)
The Lady Broncs started out of the gates on a slow note and were never able to recover as South Dakota State handed the Valley's squad a straight-set setback in the final round of the Domino's Pizza Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Jackrabbits posted a strong offensive performance against the Lady Broncs, notching a hitting percentage over .400 in each of the final two matches en route to connecting on .437 of their attempts. SDSU collected 47 kills in 87 total attempts with nine errors in its victory over the Lady Broncs.
South Dakota State came out with a 30-9 victory in the first frame and set the stage for the final two games as the Jackrabbits collected 30-16 and 30-20 decisions en route to securing the victory.
Angner Mackenzie finished with 14 kills to go along with a .522 hitting percentage to go along with nine digs and three service aces while Kristina Martin collected 14 kills in addition to a .478 hitting percentage.
Melia Iwamoto dished out 34 assists for the Jackrabbits to go along with six digs, five service aces and two blocks while Emily Rooney connected on six kills in eight total attempts for the Jackrabbits.
Marci Logan (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe H.S.) finished with a team-high six kills while Blakely added nine assists and five digs for the Lady Broncs.
UTPA will be back in action in Corpus Christi, TX, on Friday (Sept. 7) when the Lady Broncs open up action at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament against Northern Illinois.
