Lady Broncs Drop Road Decision to No. 7 Ranked Baylor

The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program lost 73-27 to No. 7 ranked Baylor University on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas. The loss brings the Lady Broncs to 5-5 on the season.

UTPA struggled as the Lady Bears held every Lady Bronc to single-digit scoring throughout the contest. The Lady Broncs held their only lead early on in the game with 18:03 on the clock after Teshay Winfrey nailed a three-point shot to make the score 3-2.

At the half, the Lady Broncs trailed by 24 as Baylor lead 36-12 while UTPA shot 23.8 percent (5-21) from the field and 22.2 percent (2-9) from the three-point line.

The Lady Broncs were unable to hold off Baylor in the second half as UTPA reached its largest deficit of 46 with 14 seconds left to play. The Lady Broncs were able to shoot 75 percent (3-4) from the free throw line and 22.2 percent (6-27) from the field.

Leading scorer Teshay Winfrey was held back to five points for a game-high along with three boards and one steal. Maria Ben Erlingsdottir and Rose Esther Jean recorded four points apiece with Erlingsdottir grabbing five boards and Jean recording three blocks, one rebound, one steal and one assist.

Danielle Wilson shined for the Lady Bears as she finished the night with a double-double, 23 points and 11 rebounds, along with five rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action this Thursday, Dec. 18 as they face Texas Southern in Houston, Texas with game time slated for 7:00 p.m. CT.
