Broncs Swept in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA - The University of Texas Pan-American Broncs women's basketball team (10-16) made a late charge but fell short to the Cal-State Baskersfield Roadrunners (11-14) 69-58 tonight at the Icardo Center. The loss extends their losing streak to three-straight.

The Roadrunners were in control the entire game, trailing only once, 8-7, 3:21 into the game. After that the Roadrunners went on a 7-2 run to make it 15-10.

The Broncs cut the lead to one three times after that, but after a LeKeisha Gray (Muskogee, OK) jumper made it 26-22 with 6:36 left in the first half, but the Roadrunners outscored the Broncs 13-5 to close out the half and lead 39-27.

Kelly Tarver hit a three-pointer 1:13 into the second half to give the Roardrunners a 14-point lead, their largest of the night, but the Broncs responded with a 7-0 run to make it 43-36 with 17:19 remaining.

The Broncs cut the game to three, 50-47, with 11:04 to go, but Christine Kepenekian hit a pair of baskets to make it an eight-point game.

Junior guard Teshay Winfrey (Houston, TX) led the Broncs with a season-high 17 points,

The Broncs will be back in action on Saturday, March 1st at 2:05 p.m. for senior day against Houston Baptist (14-10) at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
