Broncs suffer 9-3 setback to the SFA Lumberjacks

Designated hitter Kevin Croft used three hits and four runs-batted-in to spark Stephen F. Austin over The University of Texas-Pan American late Saturday night, 9-3.

Croft slugged the game's only homer and doubled to account for SFA's extra base hits. Noel Trevino and Matt Whatley doubled as well for SFA.

UTPA scored its three runs against SFA to tie the score 3-3 in the third inning when SFA's errors made all three UTPA runs unearned. SFA won despite fiver errors while UTPA had none.

Lance Luetege captured the win for SFA allowing three hits before Kevin Thomas allowed no runs and Jared West allowed only one in relief.

The SFA Lumberjacks' wound up out hitting UTPA 15-5. Starting pitcher A.J. Franco was charged with the loss, while giving up seven hits in three innings with three relief pitchers giving up eight more hits.

The loss for the Broncs brings them to a 1-1 overall record in the season. UTPA will end its three-day tournament tonight against Sam Houston State with first pitch set for 8:30 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
