Bronc Baseball Receives Upset to No. 3 Ranked Texas

Feb. 26, 2008

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program dropped the first game of a two-day series against No. 3 ranked Texas with a score of 3-10 at Disch-Faulk Field in Austin, Texas on Tuesday (Feb. 25) evening.

The Broncs got to an early start when junior Billy Donaho scored on a single to third base by Jeremy Johnson in the top of the second. The Longhorns would answer back with Travis Tucker scoring off a single to left field by Michael Torres during the bottom of the third.

The Broncs would come back with senior Roly Gonzalez scoring off a single down the middle hit by Abraham Garcia. The Broncs would then go through three pitching changes throughout the fifth inning in an attempt to fend off the Longhorns.

The bottom of the fifth would be the worst for the Broncs but best for Texas with the Longhorns scoring five runs off of the Broncs. Newcomer Doug Roth would only face two batters and be charged with the loss for the game.

The Longhorns would score two more times during the sixth inning but the Broncs came back for one more run of the evening with Roly Gonzalez scoring off of a groundout to shortstop hit by freshman Joey Mendoza in the top of the seventh.

Junior Abraham Garcia and Billy Donaho would each have two hits a piece for the night.

The Broncs will be back in action tomorrow evening when they wrap up the two-day series against the Longhorns with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. at Disch-Faulk Field in Austin, Texas.
