The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 14 University of Texas on Wednesday (Feb. 27) in Austin, TX at the UFCU Dish-Falk Field.
In the seven inning ball game, the Broncs collected only three hits in the contest compared to nine for the Longhorns. The Broncs dropped to 1-4 on the season while UT improved to a perfect 5-0 overall.
The Longhorns got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the second inning following a single to the second baseman by Russell Moldenhauer to plate Preston Clark who was hit by a pitch earlier in the game.
The hitting continued for the Longhorns as Rupp singled to right field scoring Belt from third to take a 2-0 advantage.
After three scoreless innings and a pitching change, the sixth inning would be the best for the Longhorns and worst for the Broncs as UT collected three runs on four hits to make the score 5-0.
The only hits for the Broncs came from senior Roly Gonzalez who singled up the middle in first and doubled down the left field line in third and a Jordan Rutenbar double in the second inning.
Shane Janecka received the loss after a strong five innings of work giving up five hits and two runs while striking out two of the 18 Longhorn batters.
Russell Moldenhauer went 2-for-3 with one triple and three RBI to lead the Texas offense.
The Broncs will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 29) when they take on Jackson State in Jackson, MS with game time slated for 3 p.m.
