Broncs Fall to Chicago State 91-82

Feb. 7, 2008

After collecting a victory on CSU's home floor a week prior, the Cougars were in search of a win of their own on the Broncs home floor and did so with a hard fought 91-82 victory on Saturday (Feb. 2).

Despite having five players in double-figures, UTPA was unable to contain sharp shooter David Holston who finished with a career-high 39 points on 15-of-33 shooting, 7-of-12 from behind the arc, 2-of-3 from the charity to stripe to go with two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

The Broncs trailed throughout the opening minutes of the first half until senior Brian Burrell connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 12-12 at the 15:54 mark.

Just when the Broncs looked like they were on back on track, the Cougars fired right back and led by as many as nine and headed into half time with a 42-36 lead.

It was a contest on who wanted it most in the second half as both teams showcase their shooting range. David Holston connected on 25 of his 39 points in second half including nine points coming from three's.

Paul Stoll finished with 26 points on 6-of-10 shooting, 6-of-9 from behind the arc, a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe, to go with two rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Brian Burrell collected 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, 4-of-9 from behind the arc, 1-of-2 from the free throw line, to go with seven rebounds, two assists while Nathan Hawkins chipped in with 12 points and three rebounds in23 minutes of action.

For the game, the Broncs finished shooting 52.9 percent from the field compared to 70 percent for the Cougars.

The Broncs will be back in action against UT-Arlington on Wednesday (Feb.5) with game-time slated for 7 p.m.
