Broncs Drop 5-2 Decision to UTA

The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to University of Texas at Arlington on Saturday (Mar. 22) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Broncs fell to 5-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

The Broncs began the morning with doubles' action with tandem Ivan Avila and Andrew Irving falling 8-6 to Dmitry Minkin and David Costa in the top flight while Brett Bernstein and Ashwin Vijayaragavan recorded a 8-3 victory over Nishant Hari and Brieuc Hamon in the number-two position.

Nirvick Mohinta and Marcus Dornauf dropped a 8-5 decision to Gonzalo Bienzobas and Hugo Taracido in the number-three flight.

In singles action, Avila was unable to complete his match due to an injury and dropped the top flight. Vijayaragavan handed Dmitry Minkin an 6-3, 6-0 setback in the number-two spot in the rotation while Mohinta fell to Taracido by scores of 6-1, 6-4 in the number-three position.

Irving's singles match was the last to be completed, as he suffered a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3 decision to Hamon in the number-four spot. Bernstein dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Gonzalo Bienzobas in the number-five spot of the lineup.

Recording the second point in singles' action was Dornauf with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hari playing in the sixth spot.

The Broncs will be back in action against Southland Conference foe-Lamar University on Saturday (Mar. 29) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
