South Dakota State stopped a three-run rally by The University of Texas-Pan American in the ninth inning to 11-10 victory in Huntsville, TX on Friday (Mar. 7).
With the loss the Broncs fell to 2-8 on the season while SDSU improved to 2-7 overall. The Broncs will look to capture their third win of the season when they take-on St. Louis University at 2:30 p.m.
Starting pitcher Cody Cisper had a rough start as he allowed four runs on two hits in the top of the first inning, putting the Broncs in a 4-0 hole.
The Jackrabbits pitching had their own troubles, as UTPA led an attack of a three run - five hit inning, making the score 4-3. South Dakota State added to its run total with a run in the fifth inning and two coming in the sixth.
The Broncs came up big in the sixth inning driving in three runs on three hits and a miscue by the South Dakota defense, making the score 10-7. The Jackrabbits added a run in the eight which would be all they needed to hold off the Broncs that started a rally in the ninth.
In the ninth, the Broncs produced three runs off of four hits but were unable to connect on the tying run when Ryan Vest hit into a fielder's choice to end the game with the bases loaded.
Donaho and Jordan Ruthenbar each finished with three hits apiece for the Broncs, who out hit SDSU by 16-14 margin.
Bronc hurler Cody Cisper gets the loss in the game, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing five hits, seven runs - six earned - while walking three batters to drop his record to 1-2 on the year.
The Jackrabbits Jared Koch earned the win for his 5.2 innings on the hill, allowing seven runs on 12 hits.
The Broncs will be back in action today when they take on St. Louis University with game time slated for 2:30 p.m.
