Behind the pitching of Evan Cunningham, The University of Texas-Pan American broncs collected a 17-12 victory this afternoon against Texas Southern at the MacGregor Park.
With the victory, the Broncs improved to 11-22 on the season and will look to recorded the three game sweep over the Tigers tomorrow with the final game slated for noon.
Cunningham pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs - all earned and striking out four batters.
Offensively the Broncs were led by Ryan Vest who went 3-for-6 to go with two RBI's and two runs scored while two other Broncs finished with two hits apiece.
The Broncs collected runs in seven of the nine innings including four runs in third and fifth innings.
The Broncs opened the first inning with a 1-0 advantage when Vest led things off with a doubled to right field and later scored after an error by the shortstop.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers grabbed a run following a solo homerun to left center by Deshaun Dilworth to tie the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless inning, the Broncs led an attack on Texas Southern plating four runs on two hits. Roly Gonzalez led the inning off with a walk and stole second, collecting his 22nd of the season. Gonzalez later scored on a double down the right field line by Vest.
Another fielding error for the Tigers proved costly, as the Broncs added a run when Jordan Rutenbar reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Vest from third base. A two RBI double through the right side by Nick Bournfinished off the inning, making the score 5-2.
Following the four run inning, the Broncs compiled 12 runs in the next six inning, totally the final score for the Tigers.
The Broncs will be back in action tomorrow at noon where they will look to recorded the three game sweep over the Tigers at the MacGregor Park.
