With the Southland Conference Tournament around the corner for the men's tennis team, the Broncs suffered a 6-1 setback against University of Texas at San Antonio, TX on Saturday (Apr. 19).
With the setback, the Broncs fell to 8-11 on the season and 2-5 in conference play while UTSA improved to 9-11 overall and 3-3 in the SLC.
The Broncs dropped all three matches in doubles' action and picked up only one singles' match against the Roadrunners.
Ivan Avila and Nirvick Mohinta dropped a 8-7 decision against Adam Becker and Andre Moreira in the top flight while Shashank Vij and Ashwin Vijayaragavan fell in the second flight by a score of 8-3 over Rodrigo Morgado and Daniel Moreiras.
Falling in the third flight was Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving who dropped an 8-1 decision to Robin Fernandes and Maximilian Stratmann.
Newcomer Andrew Irving collected the only win for the Broncs in singles action playing in the fourth flight.
Vijayaragavan moved to the number-one spot in the lineup but fell 7-5, 6-2 to Morgado while Avila suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback against Moreira in the number-two spot in the rotation.
Mohinta dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision to Fernandes playing in the number-three spot while Irving captured a three-set victory over Becker by scores of 6-2, 5-7, and 10-7 in the fourth match.
Dornauf lost the fifth flight by scores of 7-5, 7-5 against Moreiras while Vij dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Stratmann playing in the number-six spot.
The Broncs will have a week to prepare for the Southland Conference Tournament that is set to begin Friday (Apr. 25) in Nacogdoches, TX.
The Broncs are slated to match-up against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday (Apr. 25) with the winner advancing to the second round facing off against number-one seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday.
