The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over Oral Roberts on Saturday (Apr. 5) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
"The guys bounced back nicely today after their setback on Thursday against TAMUCC," said head men`s and women`s tennis coach Rob Hubbard. "They jumped on the doubles right away and never looked back.
With the win, the Broncs improved to 7-9 on the season while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-6 overall.
The Broncs led things off with doubles' play where they dominated all three matches and collected the point.
In the top flight, Ivan Avila and Nirvick Mohinta recorded a 8-4 win over Alexander Dargel and Alex Kotsevik while Brett Bernstein and Aswhin Vijayaragavan handed Clemons Geercken and Denis Troyke a 8-4 setback in the second flight.
Marcus Dornuaf and Andrew Irving collected a 8-2 win over Dario Belsic and Denis Balzonic in the third flight.
After recording the doubles' point, the Broncs recorded five of the six singles' matches to shut out ORU 6-1.
Avila suffered a 7-5, 6-1 setback against Kotsevik in the number-one spot while Vijayaragavan posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Dargel in the number-two spot in the rotation.
Mohinta keep things going with a 6-4, 7-6 (7) win against Troyke while newcomer Irving handed Geercken a 6-2, 6-2 setback playing in the number-four position.
Collecting the fourth singles' point and a 6-4, 6-4 win was Bernstein who handed Belsic a loss while Dornauf finished with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Balzonic in the number-six spot in the lineup.
"As a team they were more focused and mentally tough today than last Thursday. "Hopefully we can use this as a springboard for our road trip out west next week," said Hubbard"
The Broncs will be back in action with a four-game road trip when they take on Portland State on Friday (Apr. 11) in Davis, CA with game time slated for 9 a.m.
