Women's Basketball Drop 69-54 Road Decision to NJIT

Jan. 24, 2009

The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program dropped a 69-54 road decision to future Great West Conference-foe NJIT this Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The first half was an intense half as there were a total of five ties and lead changes. The Lady Broncs shot 50 percent in the first half compared to the Lady Highlanders 32 percent, but it wasn't enough to give the Lady Broncs a lead as they entered halftime trailing by five by a score of 30-25.

The second half was no brighter for the Lady Broncs as NJIT took complete control of the game and took the lead into double-figures. UTPA was only able to come within five to the Lady Highlanders on two different occasions.

Two Lady Broncs finished the night in double-figures with Epiphany Smith scoring 11 points and Aleeya Grigsby with 10. Smith added two rebounds, five assists and one steal while teammate Grigsby added seven boards, two assists and one steal.

The Lady Broncs continue their schedule on the road as they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to face the Lady Islanders on Wednesday, Jan. 28 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. CT.
