Lady Broncs Scrape by Chicago State, 55-49

The tandem of Teshay Winfrey and Robin Garrett helped push the Lady Broncs past the Lady Cougars of Chicago State, 55-49, this Saturday (Jan. 31) night at the UTPA Fieldhouse, which puts the Lady Broncs at 12-10 on the season and CSU 11-10 for the season.

The Lady Broncs held their lead throughout most of the first half but a last minute three from Courtney Waldon gave the Lady Cougars their first lead of the game with 15 seconds left in the first half.

Chicago State entered the half leading by two with a score of 25-23.

The majority of the Lady Broncs points in the first half came from the bench with 16 compared to CSU's three.

The Lady Broncs struggled to regain their lead but with 4:38 left to play, UTPA would take the final lead of the game to defeat Chicago State by six.

Senior guard Teshay Winfrey finished the night with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range and 2-of-4 from the foul line along with six rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Robin Garrett added another 18 points for the Lady Broncs for a season-high on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 6-of-8 from the foul line along with six rebounds.

For Chicago State, Courtney Waldon scored 23 points for a game-high along with seven boards, four assists and two steals.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, as they face Long Beach State with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
