UTPA Struggles in Utah, Drop 3-1 Decision to Utah Valley

With a win in the third set, the University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball team (4-15, 2-6) was unable to continue the fight and dropped a 3-1 decision to Utah Valley (13-7, 5-1) this Thursday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Shurian Family Activity Center in Orem, UT.

UTPA was two sets down (14-25, 17-25) before they showed some fight over the Lady Wolverines in the third set to win 25-21.

The Lady Broncs went into double-digit points only allowing Utah Valley to score two (10-2) points to start off the third set. The added pressure forced the Lady Wolverines to take a timeout but only caused the Lady Broncs to lose their momentum, which allowed UVU to come back and trail by three, 13-10.

UTPA continued their fight and defeated the Lady Wolverines to force a fourth set in the match to trail 2-1. The Lady Broncs were unable to hold on to the momentum and dropped the fourth set 18-25.

Junior Marci Logan collected her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs along with one block and one assist. Rita Gonzalez recorded a season-high 29 assists, while three Lady Broncs posted double-digit digs with Logan collecting 10, Gonzalez 10 and Rebecca Toddy with 12.

Utah Valley's Kayli Broadbent collected a match-high 23 kills on 40 attempts (four errors), 11 digs and one block and assist. Chelsea Fa'alogo posted 33 assists for UVU and Camie Manwill collected 15 digs.

The Lady Broncs continue their two-game road trip for the week as they head to Chicago, IL to face the Chicago State Cougars on Saturday, Oct. 17 with match time slated for 2:00 p.m.
