Final Stats
The tandem of juniors Marci Logan and Rita Gonzalez led the way for the Lady Broncs to break a five-game losing streak this Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon as they captured a 3-0 victory over Chicago State at the Dickens Center in Chicago, IL.
The win improves the Lady Broncs to 5-15 for the season and improves their conference record to 3-6, while Chicago State falls to 0-18 for the season and 0-7 in conference play.
The Lady Broncs led in all three sets and even started off the first set strong as Marci Logan recorded four of the first nine points of the 9-0 run the Lady Broncs were on. UTPA continued on their run and entered double-digit points, while holding CSU to single-digit points. CSU entered double figures on a kill by Hanya Minta.
UTPA took the first set 25-16. The second set proved to be more competitive for both clubs as the set included six ties and lead changes. After the final tie at 10, UTPA took complete control of the set to win 25-19.
The third set seemed much like the rest as UTPA swept the Cougars with a 25-18 win.
Marci Logan concluded the afternoon error free with 12 kills on 21 attempts connecting on a .571 hitting percentage. She also added 2 digs and 1 block (block assist).
Rita Gonzalez collected 28 assists for the Lady Broncs, along with 3 digs and 1 block. Two Lady Broncs collected double-digit digs with Ariana Bermea recording 16 and Rebecca Toddy 12.
The Lady Broncs will take a rest from conference play as they head to Englewood Cliffs, NJ to face St. Peter's College on Oct. 29 with match time slated for 6:00 p.m.
