DENTON, TX--The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Bronc basketball team dropped an 83-73 decision to the University of North Texas, Wednesday (Nov. 25) evening at the Super Pit in Denton, Texas.
After an early basket, UNT went up 2-0, until Maria Ben Erlingsdottir drained a three-point basket to take a 3-2 lead with 18:26 left in the first half. The Lady Broncs widened their lead as many as six points before UNT took the lead back on a lay-up with 10:36 left in the first half. Rose Esther Jean tied the game at 16-16 on a basket at the 9:30 mark, but the Lady Broncs were not able to take the lead back.
Three Lady Broncs were in double figures including freshman Bianca Torre, who recorded her first double-double with a game and career high 21 points along with 10 assists. Erlingsdottir added 14 points and five rebounds, while teammate Jean also recorded a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jasmine Godbolt led UNT with 16 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Niq'ky Timms who added 15 points and Brittney James scored 14 points. Denetra Kellum added 13 points while Raquel Cuffie added 12.
From the field, the Lady Broncs shot 46.6%, while UNT was 41.8% from the field. From beyond the arc, the Lady Broncs made 47.6% of their shots and Missouri hit on 41.7% of their attempts.
The Lady Broncs return to action on Saturday (Nov. 28) as the face Longwood University in the opening game of the Lancer Classic held in Farmville, VA. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
