Final Stats
The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program suffered a 104-42 setback to No. 2 Texas this Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 15) at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
The Broncs (1-10) were led by senior Luis Valera who scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds along with one block. In his third game of the season, Matt Mierzycki added eight points for the Broncs along with six rebounds, one block, and two steals.
UTPA did without leading scorer Jared Maree as he was injured at the 8:54 mark in the first half. In six minutes played, Maree scored two points, grabbed one rebound, and two steals.
The Broncs faced a 14-0 run by the Longhorns in the first half, but broke the silence on a three-point shot by Ben Smith at the 4:20 mark to make the score 33-14 Longhorns.
UTPA struggled coming out of the half as they only scored four points in a 4:19 stretch - all by Luis Valera.
Texas finished the evening with five Longhorns in double-figures with Avery Bradley posting 18 points, Jordan Hamilton with 15, Dexter Pittman with 14, Gary Johnson with 12, and Justin Mason with 10. The Longhorns extend their win streak to nine with the win.
The Broncs return to the UTPA Fieldhouse as they play host to the UTSA Roadrunners on Friday, Dec. 18 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
