The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program suffered a 72-48 loss to the UTSA Roadrunners this Friday (Dec. 18) afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The loss drops the Broncs to 1-11 for the season and improves the Roadrunners to 8-2.
"Our aggressiveness was missing in the first seven or eight minutes of play. Right now, we are not at the point where we can get ourselves out of that," said head men's basketball coach Ryan Marks.
"I give UTSA credit. We've seen them twice in a matter of two weeks and they were aggressive tonight just as they were at home."
ChaRunn Jones and Aaron Urbanus led the Broncs with eight points each. Jones added four assists and earned his first start of the season with the absence of sophomore Jared Maree, who was out due to an injury earlier in the week. Urbanus added one assist.
Matt Mierzycki posted a season-high nine rebounds along with four points and one assist.
As a team, the Broncs shot 37 percent from the field, including 19 percent from three-point range compared to UTSA's 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range. The Broncs did outscore the Roadrunners 29-19 with points off the bench.
In the first half, the Broncs were able to cut their deficit to 14 as they went on an 8-0 run in a 4:38 stretch.
UTSA finished with two Roadrunners in double-figures with Demarco Stepter scoring 17 points and Devin Gibson 12 points.
The Broncs get back on the road as they head to Ruston, LA to face Louisiana Tech on Tuesday, December 22 with tip-off slated for 8:00 p.m. CT.
