Lady Broncs Edged by Islanders, 61-60

Final Stats

The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program fell short to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Saturday (Dec. 19) afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The loss drops the Lady Broncs to 2-10 for the season and improves the Islanders to 6-3. TAMUCC improved their all-time record over UTPA to 18-3.

The Lady Broncs were led by freshman Bianca Torre, who scored 12 points and recorded seven assists, five steals, and three rebounds. Senior Aleeya Grigsby added 10 points along with six rebounds and one block.

Marah Guzman added nine points for the Lady Broncs along with two assists, two rebounds, and one steal. The Lady Broncs did exceptionally well from the bench as the ladies scored 20 points off the bench.

After two ties and three lead changes in the first 5:54 of the contest, the Lady Broncs never held a lead until 2:04 in the second half. Bianca Torre scored two on a fast break layup after she stole the ball from the Islanders Jade Davis. Torre put the Lady Broncs up by one.

The Lady Broncs were unable to come back after the Islanders scored two on a jumper by Jade Davis to put Corpus up by one, 61-60, and captured the win.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished with two Islanders in double-figures with Adrienne Scott scoring a game-high 20 points along with six rebounds, one assist, and one block. Jade Davis was two rebounds shy of recording a double-double as she scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds and two assists.

UTPA hits the road after the holidays as they head to Waco, Texas and face the Baylor Bears on December 30 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
