The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program (1-7) dropped an 81-53 decision over Nebraska (5-1) in front of a crowd of 9,077 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, NE this Wednesday (Dec. 2) afternoon.
Luis Valera was three rebounds shy of recording his first double-double of the season as he scored 13 points and grabbed seven boards in 24 minutes of play. The Broncs second leading scorer was Ben Smith with 12 points followed by Jared Maree with 10 points.
Both clubs kept the first half interesting as the teams tied the score on three occasions. The Broncs entered the half trailing by eight after Luis Valera scored two for the Broncs on a dunk with 57 seconds left on the clock.
UTPA outscored the Huskers in free throws, in the first, as the Broncs made 7-of-8 from the line, while Nebraska made only 5-of-8.
Nebraska's leading scorer was Ryan Anderson with 21 points along with four boards, four steals, one assist, and a block.
The Broncs remain on the road as they head to San Marcos, Texas to face the Texas State Bobcats this Saturday, Dec.4 with tip-off slated at 4:00 p.m.
