49ers Defeat Lady Broncs 78-58

An early lead for the Lady Broncs would not hold through as The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program dropped a 78-58 road decision to Long Beach State this Saturday (Feb. 14) night at Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA.

Within two minutes of play, the Lady Broncs held their first lead of the night and held it through much of the first half. In a half that consisted of three ties and seven lead changes, UTPA entered the half tied at 35 as Ashley Bookman made a basket to take UTPA's two-point lead away.

UTPA held their final lead of the game with 18:07 in the second half. In the last 2:24 of play, the 49ers took their lead to double-figures to defeat the Lady Broncs by 20.

The Lady Broncs had two players in double-figures with Epiphany Smith scoring 15 points along with five assists and Rachel Hester finished the night with 13 points, two rebounds and one assist and steal.

Long Beach also had two players in double-figures with Whitney Fields notching 23 points and Lauren Sims with 22 points.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 as they travel to Bakersfield, CA to face the Cal State-Bakersfield Roadrunners. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
