Despite having three Lady Broncs in double figures, the regular season came to end for the University of Texas-Pan American Lady Bronc basketball team as they fall on the road to Chicago State University Saturday afternoon by a 55-47 margin.
Freshman Brittany Demery, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, led the Lady Broncs. Teshay Winfrey added 12 points while pulling down five rebounds. Freshman point guard, Epiphany Smith was one rebound shy of a double-double of her own with 10 points and nine rebounds.
"Our freshman did an outstanding job. Brittany Demery had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds," said DeAnn Craft, head women's basketball coach. "Epiphany Smith added 10 points and nine rebounds."
The Lady Broncs were down by eight at the half but were unable to erase that deficit.
"They played half-court trapping zone the entire game and we just couldn't connect on any shots we put up," added Craft.
The Lady Broncs will return home and prepare for the National Independent Showcase, which starts Thursday March 5 in Orem, UT. The Lady Broncs open up against Longwood University with tip-off at 1:00 p.m. CT.
