After finally finding a tennis court to play on, The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team took to the court at the McAllen Country Club as they defeated the University of Texas-San Antonio 4-2 in a Southland Conference match.
"I'm incredibly proud of every single player that played today," interim head coach Chris Gill said. "We played really great tennis."
The Broncs originally had their match scheduled to play at the Orville Cox Center but due to weather conditions the match was moved to The Summit Sports Club. The Summit though only had two courts avaialbe so the next available was the McAllen Country Club.
"We really had to make sure we were able to get as many matches as we can," Gill said. "The Summit is only five minutes away from the country club and I have a relationship with them to allow us to use the facilities if they were ready at the time and they actually were so we made a decision to go ahead and start outdoors and it was very convenient and they had enough courts for us to play so we were able to play there."
In the number-one spot of the rotation Aswin Vijayaragavan lost to Rodrigo Morgado 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and in the number two spot Nirvick Mohinta lost to Andre Moreira 6-3, 6-0. The number three spot Andrew Irving handed an easy two set victory against Pedro Zanotelli 6-0, 6-1 while Brett Bernstein defeated Jorge Delgado 7-6(13), 6-3 in the number four spot. In the number five spot of the singles matches Beau Bernstein defeated Maximilian Stratmann 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 and in the number six spot Marcus Dornauf defeated three set decision to Sharig Kahn 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
"Between Beau, Brett, Marcus and Andrew, they all played so well today, I'm so proud of them," Gill said. "They really deserve the win."
The Broncs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18 as they face Southeastern Louisiana at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
