The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program (5-22) dropped a 7-3 decision to New Mexico State this Saturday (March 28) evening as the Aggies swept a three-game series at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
As the Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Broncs came back in the fourth to score three runs to give the Broncs a 3-1 lead.
The Broncs scored on a single to center by Jose Mendoza who drove in left fielder Abraham Garcia. Andrew Perez then reached on a fielder's choice on the next play allowing Ryan Vest to cross the plate. Tim Tefft then scored the third run of the fourth as Bonham Hough singled to right.
New Mexico State rallied in the top of the sixth as they drove in two runs to tie the score at three. The Aggies scored off of an RBI double by Mike Sodders and an RBI single by Nate Shaver.
The Broncs were able to keep the Aggies scoreless in the seventh but allowed New Mexico State to score three runs in the eighth and single run in the ninth to give the Aggies a 7-3 advantage.
Jordan Rutenbar finished the evening with Abraham Garcia going 1-for-2 with one run, while starting pitcher Scott Wingo was charged with his third loss of the season.
The Broncs will be back in action this Tuesday (March 31) as they travel to Lamar, Texas to face the Cardinals in a double-header with first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m. CT.
