The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program dropped to 11-35 for the season as they dropped an 18-7 decision to Prairie View A&M this Sunday (April 26) afternoon at the PV Baseball Complex in Prairie View, Texas.
The Broncs went six scoreless innings before posting four runs on the board on a grand slam by Abraham Garcia in the top of the seventh. Garcia collected four RBI, one run and one homerun while improving his batting average to .366 for the season.
The Broncs scored another homerun in the seventh for a two-run homerun by Jordan Rutenbar, his fourth homerun of the weekend against PVAMU. Rutenbar finished 2-for-4 while driving in two runners, scoring one run with a double and a bomb.
UTPA scored their final run in the ninth when leadoff batter Bonham Hough homered to left.
The Broncs gave up a total of 10 runs in the second, third and fourth and another eight in the sixth and seventh. Most of the damage done in three innings of play was tagged to starting pitcher Mike Lankford (1-6) for his sixth loss of the season. Lankford gave up nine hits and runs, all earned, while striking out two and walking one.
The Panthers designated hitter/pitcher Brandon Kendricks (4-5) earned his fourth win of the season in four innings of work. Kendricks struck out one batter while only giving up two hits.
The Broncs return to Edinburg Baseball Stadium where they will host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Tuesday, April 28 with first-pitch slated for 6:00 p.m. CT.
