The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered a harsh setback as the U of H Cougars defeated the Broncs 15-2 this Friday (April 3) afternoon at Cougar Field in Houston, Texas.
The Broncs posted two runs on eight hits and one error in game one of the three-game series against Houston. The Broncs are now 5-25 for the season as the Cougars improve to 10-17.
UTPA posted back-to-back single runs as they scored in the fifth and sixth inning. In the top of the fifth, Andrew Perez scored on a RBI single to second by Nick Spears, who went 2-for-3. In the following inning, Abraham Garcia opened the sixth on a homerun to left for his third homerun of the season.
The Broncs allowed Houston to score in all but two innings, the third and fourth. The Broncs gave up the most innings in the last three for a combined 12 runs.
The Broncs resume play tomorrow (April 4) afternoon at Cougar Field for game two with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
