In game one of a three-game series, the University of Texas-Pan American baseball program (6-28) dropped a 9-1 decision to #19 TCU this Thursday (April 9) afternoon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
"We spoke to the guys before the game and we told them that if they didn't come out ready to play they were going to put it to us; they did the best they could," said head coach Manny Mantrana.
As the Broncs remained scoreless in the first six innings of play, TCU was able to score eight runs on the Broncs.
In six innings of work, starting pitcher Tim Tefft, who was also tagged with his fourth loss, was able to keep the Horned Frogs to only three runs on seven hits along with four strikeouts and three walks.
"For being converted into a pitcher just three weeks ago, Tim Tefft did a really good job for us on the mound," said Mantrana.
UTPA scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh as Garrett Bivone (1-for-4, 1 run, double) crossed the plate on a RBI single to left by Jordan Rutenbar.
TCU was able to score two more runs on the Broncs in the final two innings of play to defeat the Broncs 9-1.
The Broncs face the Horned Frogs in game two tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
