May 23, 2009

The Broncs recorded their third straight win of the season as they defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 7-4 this Saturday (May 23) night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

"It's always nice to have our seniors go out on a winning note and now we wish them the best of luck in their professional lives," said head coach Manny Mantrana. "Scott Wingo competed well and then handed it over to Tim Tefft who did a nice job in closing out the final game of the season."

UTPA recorded their seven runs on nine hits while committing only two errors. Northern Colorado scored their 4 runs on 7 hits and committed only one error.

The Broncs recorded a three-run fourth and fifth to lead the Northern Colorado Bears 6-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Andy Mees and Kevin Sandberg scored the Bears two runs in the third inning off of bases-loaded walks.

UTPA then added a lone run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Vest allowing Bonham Hough to score.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Northern Colorado scored a run by Adrian Schenk to make the score 7-3. The Broncs gave up a hit and replaced starting pitcher Scott Wingo (4-6) with Tim Tefft to close out the final game of the season.
