Lady Broncs Defeat Chicago State, 3-1

Final Stats

The tandem of juniors Marci Logan and Rita Gonzalez led the way for the Lady Broncs (4-10, 2-2) as they captured a 3-1 victory over the Cougars of Chicago State (0-13, 0-3) this Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon at the Sharp Gymnasium in Houston, Texas.

UTPA was able to record a quick 25-12 win in the first set but fell short in the second as Chicago State won the second set, 25-19. The Lady Broncs then came back in the third and fourth sets with 25-17 and 25-16 victories.

The Lady Broncs recorded double-digit kills in each of the four sets with 13 kills in the first, 12 in the second, 14 in the third and 15 in the final set.

Marci Logan posted a season-high 16 kills along with 32 total attacks, 3 errors, 3 assists and 5 digs. Rita Gonzalez recorded her first double-double of the season and season-highs as she collected 23 assists and 16 digs.

Chicago State had three Cougars in double-digit digs with Hanya Minta recording 16 digs and Mazvita Maziveyi and Shamara Clark with 11. Maziveyi also posted a team-high 9 kills.

The Lady Broncs take a break from conference play as they head to Corpus Christi, Texas and face the Islanders on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
