Final Stats
Matt Mierzycki, Jared Maree, and Aaron Urbanus all scored in double-figures to lead the Broncs to a 63-42 victory over the Chicago State Cougars this Saturday (Jan. 16) evening at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Mierzycki scored a season-high 16 points along with one rebound and one steal. Jared Maree scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Aaron Urbanus added 11 points and collected three assists and two steals.
Maree also recorded five of his six rebounds in the second half.
The Broncs connected on 10-19 shooting from the field to lead them by five at the half. The first half registered one tie and six lead changes with the Broncs holding their largest lead of the half with 1:35 on the clock after the Broncs went on an 8-0 run.
UTPA continued with the momentum in the second half and never allowed Chicago State to hold a lead. The Broncs outscored the Cougars 14-0 in points in the paint and scored 12 points on the Cougars eight turnovers (in the second half).
The Cougars found themselves in foul trouble early on in the game as leading scorer Carl Montgomery committed three fouls within 9:07 of play.
Montgomery sat out the rest of the first half and started the second half, but found himself in foul trouble once again as he committed his fourth foul at the 16:35 mark.
Christian Wall was the Cougars leading scorer with 13 points and added six rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
Although Carl Montgomery only saw 10 minutes of action on the floor, he managed to score eight points and grabbed six boards.
The Broncs step out of Great West Conference play as they head to Fort Worth, Texas to face the TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 20 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
