Final Stats
The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program suffered a 70-58 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs this Wednesday (Jan. 20) evening at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.
The first half, which consisted of two ties and six lead changes, saw its first tie of the frame on a three-point shot by Aaron Urbanus.
The Frogs took the next lead on 1-of-2 made free throws by Zvonko Buljan at the 16:20 mark, but the Broncs followed TCU's free throws with a three-point shot by Nick Weiermiller with 15:03 on the clock.
UTPA saw a short-lived lead and held their largest led of four at the 14:14 mark on two free throws by Aaron Urbanus. By the half, Urbanus scored 11 of his 13 points in 16 minutes of play.
The Broncs held their final lead of the half with 12:04 in regulation as Weiermiller drained his second three of the frame. Weiermiller, along with Urbanus, was the only other Bronc to score in double-digits with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, including 3-of-9 from three-point range. Weiermiller also collected three rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
As the Broncs headed to the locker rooms trailing by nine, they were never able to regain momentum as the Horned Frogs took their lead to double-figures within 1:34 into the second half. UTPA closed out the contest on a 12-point deficit as ChaRunn Jones made a three-point shot with one second remaining on the clock.
UTPA outshot the Frogs from three-point range as the Broncs finished with 44 percent (10-23) from three-point range with TCU posting 21 percent (3-14). The Broncs also closed out the evening on 37 percent (20-54) shooting from the field and 50 percent (8-16) from the line.
Aaron Urbanus scored 13 points for the Broncs on 3-of-6 shooting from the three-point line and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. ChaRunn Jones scored six points on 2-of-4 shooting from three-point range in nine minutes on the hardwood.
TCU saw three Frogs in double-figures with Ronnie Moss scoring a game-high 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, including 1-of-4 from the three-point line and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line, to go along with 11 assists and one steal.
Nikola Cerina scored 13 points and Zvonko Buljan posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The loss drops the Broncs to 3-17 for the season and improves the Frogs to 10-9 overall.
The Broncs continue with non-conference action as they host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Jan. 25 at the UTPA Fieldhouse with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
