Broncs Fall Short to Falcons, 72-65

The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program (1-14) fell short to the Air Force Falcons (8-5) as the Broncs dropped a 72-65 decision this Saturday (Jan. 2) afternoon at Clune Arena at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Broncs were able to control the game early on as they as they took a permanent lead in the first half at the 15:19 mark on a three-point shot by Jared Maree. The Broncs led by as much as six with 4:46 on the clock as Nick Weiermiller scored two for UTPA.

UTPA entered the half leading by four after Maree scored three with five seconds on the clock. Maree finished the night in double-figures with 13 points and collected five assists, two boards, and one block.

The second half was a different story for UTPA as the Broncs' lead slipped away within 3:07 of play. The Broncs did not manage to recuperate from the slip. UTPA came as close as one after Weiermiller nailed both his free throws with 3:39 on the clock to make the score 58-57.

Nick Weiermiller scored a game-high 25 points and recorded four steals, three assists, and four rebounds. Matt Mierzycki added eight points for the Broncs along with six rebounds and one assist.

Next up for the Broncs is a match up with Virginia on January 5 with tip-off slated for 8:00 p.m. CT. The Broncs begin conference play on January 14 as they host NJIT at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
