EDINBURG, Texas - The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Broncs women's basketball team is set to host the Islanders of Texas A & M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) Saturday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Broncs (2-0) are looking to extend their winning streak following wins over Our Lady of the Lake and Texas Southern. The visiting Islanders (0-3) have suffered setbacks to Arkansas State, Southern and Kansas. TAMUCC and UTPA faced off twice last year, each picking up a win as the visiting team.
CeMonay Newell leads UTPA with 17 points per game, while Adanna Opara leads the way with 9.5 rebounds per game. During the Broncs 72-61 win over Our Lady of the Lake, Newell tallied 23 points. Opara put up a double-double against Texas Southern with 12 rebounds, 12 points to lead UTPA to a 70-62 win over the Tigers.
TAMUCC's Jessica Jammer scored 11 points against KU on Wednesday night. Lauren Smith lead the team averaging 11 points per game. Meanwhile, Anitra Jeffrey is averaging 10 rebounds per game.
Following the conclusion of this game, the UTPA Men's team will host Texas State at 7 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
