EDINBURG, Texas – Clinching their fourth win of the season, the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) women's basketball program topped the Texas A & M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) Javelinas 90-68 Monday, Nov. 22 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The Javelinas (0-3) put up the first basket of the night with a layup from Rochelle Ikeni, but sophomore Bianca Torre responded with two consecutive three-point shots to give the UTPA a 6-2 advantage. Breanna Gonzalez followed up with a jumper for the Javelinas, but TAMUK's defense could not stop the Broncs as UTPA took the 18-4 lead at the 15:16 mark.

The Broncs (4-0) continued to contain the Javelinas throughout the first half leading by as many as 30 points and entered halftime with a 54-26 advantage.

UTPA opened the second half with a three-point shot from Torre, which was followed by a layup from Erin Lewis to build the Broncs' lead to 59-28.  

At the 15:34 mark, the Broncs took their largest lead of the night 66-30, but Meagan Barlow, Victoria Gonzalez and Ikeni fought back to close the Javelina deficit to 29 points, 69-40.

Throughout the remainder of the second half, the Broncs were able to contain TAMUK. The Javelinas were able to get within 19 points of UTPA 80-61 with 4:14 remaining in the half, but the Broncs stayed the course, winning the game by 22 points, 90-68.

Torre led the Broncs with 27 points, shooting 6-6 from the three-point range. Ce'Monay Newell recorded 18 points, and Lewis put up a double-double with 15 points and 13 assists. Also scoring double digits for UTPA was Adanna Opara with 13 points.

The last time the Broncs started the season 4-0 occurred during their 2003-04 campaign.

Next up for the Broncs is the Basketball Travelers Invitational (BTI) hosted by the University of Oklahoma Nov. 26-28. UTPA will face the Sooners Friday, Nov. 26 in a 7 p.m. contest. Saturday, UTPA will take on Prairie View A & M at 5 p.m., and Sunday, they will take on Gardner-Webb with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
