NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team travels to Nacogdoches, Texas to face the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin (SFA) University Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. (CT).
UTPA (4-3) enters the contest following three losses at the Basketball Travelers Invitational (BTI) Tournament, which was hosted by the University of Oklahoma. Despite the setbacks, sophomore guard Bianca Torre was able to put up 26 points against the Sooners Friday, Nov. 26, and junior guard Ce'Monay Newell recorded 23 points against the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb Sunday.
Newell, last week's Great West Conference Player of the Week leads the Broncs this season, averaging 17.3 points per game, followed by Torre with 14.6 points per game. Junior Adanna Opara is also averaging double figures with 10 points per game.
SFA (0-5) has experience four road losses and one home loss against Tulane. The Ladyjacks last competed at the Loyola-Marymount Tournament in Los Angeles, where they faced the University of Denver and Loyola Marymount.
Tammara Marion leads the Jacks with 15.4 points per game, followed by Jordan Ford with 9.8 points per game.
