BRONCS FACE BAYLOR THURSDAY

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team travels to Waco, Texas Thursday, Dec. 30 to face the No. 2 Bears of Baylor University in a 7 p.m. (CT) contest at the Ferrell Center.

The Broncs enter the contest following a 78-66 win over Sam Houston State University Tuesday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse that helped the squad remain undefeated at home this season.

During Tuesday's win the Broncs saw five players put up double-digits in the points column. Junior forward Donna Jackson led UTPA with 17 points against Sam Houston, followed by Bianca Torre with 14 points. Re-Shawndra Jackson tallied 12 points, and Erin Lewis tallied 11 points. Ce'Monay Newell and Adanna Opara both notched 10 points, while Opara also recorded 17 rebounds.

Overall, Torre leads the Broncs this season with 19.4 points per game, followed by Newell with 16.5 points per game. Lewis leads the team with 7.2 assists per game, and Opara is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game.

The Bears enter Thursday's game following nine straight wins. Baylor's only loss this season was to No. 1 Connecticut Nov. 16, 65-64. Last time out, the Bears topped Syracuse and Clemson at the Bahamas Sunsplash Shootout Dec. 20 and 21.

Brittany Griner leads the bears with 21.8 points per game, followed by Odyssey Sims with 12.4 points per game.
