BOX SCORE
WACO, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team assumed #2 Baylor would be their toughest test of the 2010-11 season. Their assumption proved correct as the Broncs fell to the heavily favored Big-12 foe 101-55, Thursday night at the Ferrell Center in Waco. The Bears extended their win streak to 10.
The Bears (13-1) began the game with a hot start by scoring the game's first 14 points, which included two three-point plays by sophomore sensation Brittney Griner. The Bears continued on a 22-1 run over the first 8:29 of the game. The Broncs (8-8) broke the streak as Ce'Monay Newell nailed a jumper at the 12:14 mark to give the Broncs their first field goal.
The Broncs began to chip away at the Baylor lead mid-way through the half, thanks to the strong play of leading scorer Bianca Torre led the Broncs on a 9-1 run by hitting three consecutive threes to pull the Broncs within 40-19 after trailing by 29. The Bears finished the half outscoring the Broncs 50-26. Griner scored 16 points in the first half to lead for the Bears while Torre led for UTPA with 12.
The Bears continued to show in the second half why their only loss this season was to top ranked Connecticut. After Newell hit a three to start the half for the Broncs, the Bears erupted for a 14-1 run and led 64-30 with 16:28 to play. The Bears outscored the Broncs in the second half 51-29
