Final Stats
The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball program defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines, 74-61, this Saturday (Feb. 13) evening at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Four Broncs in double-figures led the way with Aaron Urbanus scoring a game-high 19 points, Luis Valera scoring 16 points, Manny Hendrix with 15, and Jared Maree with 14 points.
With the Broncs opening up the half on a three-point bucket by Aaron Urbanus, the Wolverines took over the Broncs lead on a jump shot by Eric Dearden. The Wolverines managed to hold onto their small lead over UTPA, but a three-point shot by Manny Hendrix gave the Broncs a one-point lead with 11:38 in the half.
The Broncs were able to lead by as much as 11 with 2:03 left in regulation after Jared Maree scored two on a layup. UTPA closed out the half with a nine point lead and kept the Wolverines scoreless in the last 50 seconds of play.
The Broncs lead the entire second half en route to their win over Utah Valley, but the Wolverines did come as close as five to the Broncs after Eric Dearden scored two with 9:15 on the clock. Aaron Urbanus then followed UVU's possession with a three-point shot to extend the Broncs lead to eight with 8:56 on the clock.
Urbanus' 19 points came on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line, to go along with three rebounds in 32 minute on the hardwood.
Luis Valera shot 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-7 from the line, along with seven rebounds and two steals. Manny Hendrix posted his 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, along with four rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 20 minutes of action.
Jared Maree scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half and concluded tonight's contest with 4-of-8 shooting from the field, including 1-of-3 from three-point range, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Maree also posted six rebounds and two assists.
Jordan Swarbrick was the Wolverines top performer with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
The win improves the Broncs to 4-23 for the season and 3-5 in Great West Conference play. The Wolverines drop to 11-13 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Next up for the Broncs is a road match up against NJIT on Saturday, Feb. 20 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
