Feb. 6, 2010

CHICAGO, IL--The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team lost to Chicago State University (CSU) this Saturday afternoon (Feb. 6), 78-63 at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The Lady Broncs were led by Aleeya Grigsby's 14 points and seven boards on 6-of-8 shooting. Marah Guzman tallied a double-double of 12 assists and 11 points, and Rose Esther Jean notched 10 points and two blocks.

"We need to learn to play with intensity for all 40 minutes of the game. As one of the two leaders of the conference, other teams are looking to beats us, especially in their house," said head coach Denny Downing.

"We were down by four at the half (29-25) and came out and shot 61% from the field in the second half and still lost; this was a tough loss for us," added Downing.

Junior Tressa Beckel led CSU with a game-high 18 points and two blocked shots, while senior Alyssa Waldon posted 17 points with six steals. Junior Courtney Waldon added 14 points and sophomore Natalie Marlowe recorded 12 points with a game-high eight rebounds.

The Lady Broncs return to action on Wednesday (Feb.10) when they host Houston Baptist at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Sam Williams Court. Game time is slated for 5:45 p.m.
