SAN ANTONIO, TX--The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team opened Southland conference play with a loss, 4-3 to the University of Texas-San Antonio at the UTSA Tennis Center Saturday (Feb. 6).
At number one singles, UTPA's Aswin Vijayaragavan, defeated Martin Ayala, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Brett Bernstein defeated Tyler Brown, 6-4, 6-4 to earn the point at number two. Beau Bernstein lost to Rodrigo Morgado, 6-2, 6-2 at number. Max Stratmann defeated Nirvick Mohinta, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 at number four. At number five, Marcus Dornauf lost to Daniel Moreiras, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Andrew Irving lost to Jorge Delgado, 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
The Broncs earned the doubles point with victories at number two and number three. At number one, the Bernstein tandem lost to Rodrigo Morgado and Martin Ayala, 8-3 while at number two, Aswin Vijayaragavan and Nirvick Mohinta defeated Max Stratmann and Tyler Brown, 9-8 (7-2). At number three, Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving defeated Daniel Moreiras and Pedro Santelli, 9-8 (7-4).
The Broncs return to action on Tuesday (Feb.9) when they travel to Waco, Texas to face Baylor in a match that has been re-scheduled twice. The match is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
