Final Stats

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered a 3-2 heartbreaker to No. 3 Texas this Tuesday (Mar. 2) evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas.

Both clubs kept a close ball game as Texas took a lead in the bottom of the second on a bases loaded balk by Kyle Kotchie with two outs on the board.

An inning and a half later, in the top of the fourth, second baseman Angel Ibanez scored on a RBI single to right by Garrett Bivone. Ibanez had remained in play after a failed pick-off by the pitcher at first.

That same inning, in the bottom of the fourth, Texas scored on another bases loaded balk by Kotchie to put the Longhorns up 2-1 with two outs.

Pan-American scored once again in the top of the fifth as third baseman Vincent Mejia scored from second on a single up the middle by Angel Ibanez. The `Horns posted their third run of the night on a solo shot to right center by Cameron Rupp to put Texas up 3-2.

What looked like an easy out on a fly to right, junior Alex Carnall lost his balance and slipped on the warning track allowing a double by Kevin Keyes. Keyes would be replaced by Cohl Walla at second.

Walla would not score in the bottom of the eight, but the Broncs were unable to bounce back as they went three-up, three-down in the top of the ninth.

With an inning pitched, the pitcher of record for the Longhorns would be Stayton Thomas, while the loss was accredited to Broncs starting pitcher Kyle Kotchie. Kotchie struck out 11 batters while only walking four and giving up three runs on three hits.

Freshman Angel Ibanez concluded the evening 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Garrett Bivone finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Broncs next host a three-game series with Louisiana Tech on Friday, Mar. 5 through Sunday, Mar. 7. First pitch for Friday's game is slated for 6:00 p.m.
