Broncs Knocked Off by Islanders, 17-1

Final Stats

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered a 17-1 setback to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Tuesday (March 30) afternoon at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The loss drops the Broncs to 9-8 for the season and improves the Islanders to 11-14 for the season.

Texas-Pan American was led by Stuart MacInnes who went 1-for-3, a double, and a run scored, while Vincent Mejia finished 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Broncs scored one run on four hits with the Broncs lone run coming in the sixth on a RBI single to right by Vincent Mejia. Mejia scored Stuart MacInnes after MacInnes was walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored from second.

UTPA saw defensive changes in today's contest with Vincent Mejia at shortstop and Billy Donaho at third. The Broncs gave up runs in 6-of-8 innings with a five-run fourth.

Texas-Pan American saw five different pitching changes, but it was Troy Green who was tagged with the loss and is now 1-2 for the season. Green pitched 2 1/3 innings while striking out three, walking two, and giving up eight runs - all earned.

A&M-Corpus Christi's Cory Ege and Bobby Buckner were a homerun shy of a cycle as Ege finished 4-for-4 with an RBI, four runs scored, a double, and a triple, while Bobby Buckner went 3-for-6 with three RBIs, two runs scored, a double, and triple.

Islanders starting pitcher Ian Campbell notched his third win of the season with three innings of work. Campbell struck out two, walked one, and gave up no runs.

Up next for the Broncs is a three-game series with Centenary this April 2-4 in Shreveport, LA.
