Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Northern Colorado

Final Stats

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program (10-15, 0-3) dropped Saturday's doubleheader to Northern Colorado (11-15, 3-0) by scores of 10-3 and 10-4 this evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Game one of Saturday's doubleheader was played in seven innings and in 2:34. Billy Donaho finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Bryant Elliott added a 2-for-4 plate appearance, one RBI, and two doubles.

Northern Colorado's three-run fourth and fifth and four-run sixth gave the Broncs their 14th loss of the season.

Ryan Vest put Texas-Pan American up on the board in the fifth on a RBI single by Billy Donaho. The Broncs closed out game one with two runs on back-to-back plays.

Alex Carnall scored on a Bryant Elliott double down the right field line. Alex San Juan then scored on a groundout to third by Billy Donaho.

In four innings of work on the hill, LHP Kyle Kotchie was tagged with the loss (1-3) as he fanned two, walked two, and scored three runs on three hits. Northern Colorado's Joe Willman pitched a complete game. Willman struck out three, walked two, and gave up three runs on nine hits.

Northern Colorado 10, UTPA 4
Texas-Pan American saw themselves trailing early on as Northern Colorado posted seven runs in the first three frames. UNC put up three runs in the first, one in the second, and three in the third.

Trailing 7-0, the Broncs managed to put up a pair of runs in the fourth. Leadoff hitter Vincent Mejia scored the Broncs first run of the inning as he homered over the left field bullpen wall. Garrett Bivone then scored on a groundout double play.

The Broncs gave up another three runs - one in the sixth and two in the eighth - to Northern Colorado to put the Bears up 10-4.

As in game one, the Broncs closed out the game with a pair of runs. Mike McCarthy scored on RBI double by Iradier Hernandez. Hernandez then scored on a groundout to second by Abraham Garcia.

Garrett Bivone finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Vincent Mejia went 1-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored, and a home run.

In 2 2/3 innings of work, Hayden Daugherty was tagged with the loss (2-3) as the RHP gave up seven runs on eight hits. Northern Colorado's James Quisenberry notched his first win of the season as he struck out six and walked two in eight innings on the hill.

The Broncs close out the series this Sunday (April 11) afternoon as UTPA takes on Northern Colorado at 12 noon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
