Final Stats
The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to the Northern Colorado Bears this Sunday (April 11) afternoon at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The loss drops the Broncs to 10-16 for the season and an 0-4 start in Great West Conference play, while the Bears improve to 12-15 for the season and a flawless 4-0 conference start.
Vincent Mejia went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a homerun. Abraham Garcia finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Texas-Pan American managed to stay in close range to the Bears. The Broncs tied the score in the bottom of the third on a Vincent Mejia solo home run over the leftfield bullpen wall. Mejia homered twice during the weekend series.
The Bears then put up two runs on the Broncs in the fifth on a RBI double by TJ Berge and a bases loaded infield single to second by Mike Raudenbush. The Broncs then managed to come within one of Northern Colorado in the sixth on an RBI single by Iradier Hernandez. Hernandez drove in Abraham Garcia from second.
Northern Colorado put up four more runs in the last three innings with a single in the seventh and three in the ninth to sweep the series.
In seven innings of work, starting pitcher Scott Wingo was tagged with the loss for his first of the season (2-1). Wingo struck out four and walked three, while giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits.
Northern Colorado's Mark Shannon received the win with six innings of work. Shannon struck out four, walked four, while giving up two runs on four hits. UNC's Casy Coy also received his first save of the season.
The Broncs step out of conference play as they face Lamar on Tuesday, April 13 in a doubleheader slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
